Art, Chaos, and a Little Bit of ✨Delusion✨
ABOUT MATT MEDLEY
Matt Medley is a Toronto-based product designer, creative director, artist, and writer working at the intersection of design, technology, and human behaviour. His career spans product strategy, UX/UI, design systems, advertising, contemporary art, and emerging technologies, with a particular interest in the decisions that shape how people experience the world around them.
He’s spent much of his career designing for people who aren’t him. That means understanding how people think, what they need, what frustrates them, and why seemingly small design decisions can have disproportionately large consequences. His work ranges from complex digital products and enterprise platforms to brand identities, interactive experiences, and experimental creative projects.
Before focusing on product design, Matt worked in advertising and creative direction, collaborating with major brands and agencies to develop campaigns, visual identities, and digital experiences. His creative background extends further into Toronto’s music and art scenes, where he began as a DJ before exploring illustration, contemporary art, motion graphics, and other forms of visual expression.
That multidisciplinary experience continues to influence his approach to design. Working across different mediums has given him an appreciation for both the possibilities and limitations of any particular discipline. The tools change, but the underlying questions tend to remain surprisingly similar: Who is this for? What problem are we solving? What assumptions are we making? And does any of this actually make sense to the person on the other side?
Today, Matt is the Founding Chief Design Officer at MindClon, an AI company exploring how technology can help organizations better understand human behaviour and make more informed decisions. His work increasingly focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, product design, and human judgment, particularly where automation introduces new questions about trust, responsibility, and the role of the designer.
Outside his professional work, Matt continues to explore contemporary art, illustration, graphic design, 3D modelling and animation, photography, and augmented reality. His artwork often draws inspiration from pop culture, music, fashion, and science fiction, combining traditional techniques with digital tools and emerging technologies. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across North America.
He’s also a regular writer on medley.ltd and Medium, publishing articles about product design, UX, AI, design judgment, and the increasingly complicated relationship between people and technology. His writing draws on practical experience, research, and the occasional questionable design decision that deserves a closer look.
Whether he’s designing a digital product, writing about an emerging technology, or making something that serves absolutely no practical purpose, the common thread is curiosity about how things work, why people respond to them, and whether there’s a more interesting way to approach the problem.
