Amongst Gods
Drawn in black ink using dry brush techniques and directional linework, Amongst Gods explores the tension between motion and refusal. The horse is rendered mid-stride—free of rider, saddle, or reins—through a balance of gesture and restraint. Line weight and negative space are used to suggest form without defining it, creating movement that feels momentary and permanent at once. The markings are non-anatomical and deliberately ambiguous: not symbols to decode, but impressions to interpret—like a sigil that resists translation.
The title references Pedasus, the mortal horse in The Iliad, harnessed alongside two divine stallions born of wind and harpy. Though destined to fall, he ran with them:
“Though mortal, kept pace with those immortal horses.” — Homer, Iliad 16.153 (via Lattimore)
This piece is about that tension, being out of place, and refusing to yield.
